Quick Answer
Battery: NiMH, 34 modules — about 245 V nominal
Generations: 2007–2011 (first generation) and 2012–2017 (second generation) — different pack designs
Most common codes: P0A80, P0A7F and cooling-fan codes
Factory warranty: Expired on these model years
Typical fix: Module repair, or a full pack rebuild for $1,700
The Camry Hybrid is a workhorse — many in DFW are commuter and rideshare cars with high mileage. The 2007–2011 and 2012–2017 generations use a NiMH pack mounted behind the rear seat, and both are repairable. The all-new 2018 Camry Hybrid moved the battery under the rear seat and uses lithium-ion on the LE and NiMH on the SE and XLE.

Common Symptoms
- “Check Hybrid System” and red triangle
- Engine runs more, MPG drops
- Hesitation or weak acceleration
- Battery cooling fan running loud
- No READY after sitting
Warning Codes
Camry Hybrids usually report a weak pack with P0A80 or P0A7F. Overheating and fan codes (P0A81–P0A85) are common on cars that carry passengers and cargo near the rear-seat intake. Weak blocks are confirmed with live block voltage and a load test.

A 2013 Camry Hybrid: 20 systems scanned, P0A80 in Hybrid Control, plus unrelated tire-pressure and door-switch history codes. Every code goes into the written report before any quote. View the sample report →

How Long Does the Camry Hybrid Battery Last?
The Camry Hybrid uses a nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) pack. NiMH packs commonly last around 10–15 years, but North Texas heat ages the modules faster — especially on cars that sit outside in summer. The first Camry Hybrid models (2007) are now 19 years old and even the newest (2017) is 9, so some module wear is normal at this age. It rarely happens to all modules at once: usually a few weak modules pull the whole pack down, which is why we test every module before quoting.
Camry Hybrid: Is It the Battery — or Something Else?
Not every hybrid warning means the battery is bad. On a Camry Hybrid, these are the look-alike problems we rule out before quoting a battery repair:
- A weak 12-volt battery. If the 12 V battery is weak, a Camry Hybrid may not go into READY or may show several warnings at once. It is the cheapest thing to rule out, so we test it first.
- A clogged battery cooling intake or fan. The pack is cooled with cabin air. Dust, pet hair or bags blocking the intake make it run hot and set battery codes early — sometimes cleaning is the whole fix.
- Inverter cooling (P0A93). This code points to the inverter’s coolant pump or cooling system, not the hybrid battery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the 2012–2017 battery the same as the 2007–2011?
No. Both have 34 NiMH modules, but the pack design is different. Our full rebuild price is the same for both.
Do you work on 2018 and newer Camry Hybrids?
Call us. Some 2018+ trims use a different battery type, so pricing depends on the exact model.
My Camry Hybrid is used for rideshare. Is a rebuild worth it?
For high-mileage cars that will keep working, a rebuild is usually much cheaper than replacing the car.
Check your VIN for open recalls on NHTSA.gov before paying for any hybrid repair.
