Quick Answer
Battery: 2011–2012: 100.8 V NiMH · 2013–2016: 144 V lithium-ion
Most common codes: P0A7F, P1449, P1447 — see our Honda IMA code guide
Good to know: NiMH and lithium CR-Z packs are not interchangeable without changes
Typical fix: Test first, then repair or rebuild
The CR-Z is Honda’s sporty IMA hybrid coupe. Early cars use a NiMH pack; from 2013, Honda switched to a higher-voltage lithium-ion pack. Testing tells us which repair path makes sense.

CR-Z: What Owners Should Know
- The CR-Z used a NiMH IMA pack for 2011–2012 and switched to a 144-volt lithium-ion pack from 2013 onward.
- The early CR-Z battery design is closely related to the 2010–2014 Insight.
- Because the CR-Z is a sporty car with a manual-transmission option, owners may notice lost assist when cells weaken.
- Swapping a lithium pack into a 2011–2012 car is not a simple plug-in job. Call us to talk through the options for your year.
- Check your VIN for open recalls on NHTSA.gov before paying for any hybrid repair.
Common Symptoms
- IMA and check engine lights on
- Assist gauge shows little or no assist
- Charge gauge jumps up and down (“recals”)
- Engine works harder and MPG drops
- Auto-stop stops working
