Nissan Hybrid Models We Service
Nissan never sold many hybrids in the U.S., which is exactly why owners struggle to find someone who knows them. DFW Hybrid Battery works on Nissan hybrids across North Dallas. We test the pack on site, explain what we find in plain English, and tell you whether a repair makes sense before any work begins.
Nissan Hybrids and Their Batteries
Nissan used two very different hybrid systems. The Altima Hybrid borrowed Toyota’s design; the later SUVs used Nissan’s own one-motor, two-clutch system with a small lithium-ion battery.
| Model | U.S. years | Battery | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Altima Hybrid | 2007–2011 | NiMH, 244.8 volts | Toyota-licensed hybrid system; pack behind the rear seat, cooled through an inlet in the rear package shelf |
| Pathfinder Hybrid | 2014 only | Lithium-ion (compact laminated) | Supercharged 2.5L four-cylinder plus a 15 kW motor; pack under the third-row seat |
| Murano Hybrid | 2016 | Lithium-ion | Same supercharged 2.5L and 15 kW motor layout as the Pathfinder Hybrid |
| Rogue Hybrid | 2017–2019 | Lithium-ion | 2.0L four-cylinder plus a 30 kW motor; pack under the rear cargo area |
The Altima Hybrid’s battery, controls and electric drive are closely based on the Toyota hybrids of the same era, so we test it much like the NiMH pack in a Camry Hybrid. The Altima Hybrid was first sold mainly in states that follow California emission rules, but plenty of them have since made their way to Texas.
Common Symptoms and Warning Signs
Warning lights and hybrid codes
A check-engine or hybrid system warning with battery-related codes is the most common reason owners call. On many hybrids a worn pack sets P0A80 or block-voltage codes, but the code alone doesn’t prove the battery is bad. See our hybrid battery codes guide.
Engine revving and falling fuel mileage
Altima Hybrid owners have reported the engine revving more than usual, poor battery charging cycles and batteries going dead. A pack that charges and drains too fast usually shows up as worse mileage first.
Ran out of gas or sat for months
Running an Altima Hybrid out of fuel can deplete and damage the hybrid battery. A drained pack sometimes needs a slow external hybrid battery charge before we can judge its health.
Weak 12-volt battery
On the Altima Hybrid, a low 12-volt battery can set a false code (P0603). We check the small battery before blaming the big one.
Heat and cooling problems
A blocked intake on the rear package shelf or a tired cooling fan lets the pack run hot. More on battery cooling and temperature codes.
Check Your Warranty First
Nissan’s hybrid warranty booklets for the 2016 and 2019 model years list the hybrid system — including the hybrid control unit, the high-voltage battery pack and the inverter — at 96 months or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. A late Rogue Hybrid may still be covered, so check with a Nissan dealer using your VIN before you pay anyone, including us.
The newest Altima Hybrid is a 2011, so its factory hybrid battery coverage has run out by age. The federal emissions warranty on major emission components is 8 years / 80,000 miles, which has also ended on most Nissan hybrids.
How DFW Hybrid Battery Handles a Nissan Hybrid
We scan the hybrid system, read live battery data, check the 12-volt battery, cooling and connections, and test the pack before recommending anything. Most jobs are done at your home or work; when a repair needs it, we can bring the car to our shop.
Altima Hybrid (NiMH)
We test the modules, charge and balance the pack, and look at module repair or a rebuild where the pack design allows it. If the pack isn’t worth saving, we explain replacement options: new, remanufactured or tested-used.
Pathfinder, Murano and Rogue Hybrid (lithium-ion)
Lithium-ion packs are handled differently. A warning can come from the battery management system, a sensor or a connection rather than the cells themselves, and repairs are usually decided at the module or cell-group level. Depending on what testing shows and which parts are available, the right answer may be a targeted repair or a replacement — and we’ll tell you plainly when replacement is the better choice.
Nissan Hybrid Battery Prices
There is no fixed rebuild price for Nissan hybrids because the models, battery types and failures vary too much. The on-site diagnostic is $150 in our service area and 100% credited toward the repair ($200 elsewhere in DFW, 50% credited). After testing, you get a written quote for repair, rebuild or replacement before any work begins. For general pricing on other models, see our hybrid battery prices. Warranty: 1 to 3 years depending on the vehicle’s condition and mileage, provided in writing before work begins.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you work on the Nissan Leaf?
The Leaf is a fully electric car, not a hybrid. Our work focuses on hybrid batteries, so this page covers the Altima, Pathfinder, Murano and Rogue hybrids.
Can an Altima Hybrid battery be rebuilt?
Often it can be repaired or rebuilt, because it is a NiMH module pack based on Toyota’s design. Whether it makes sense depends on what module testing shows, so we quote after the diagnostic.
Can a Rogue Hybrid lithium-ion battery be repaired?
Sometimes. Some warnings come from the battery management system, sensors or connections, and some packs need module-level work or replacement. Testing tells us which, and we explain the options honestly.
How much does Nissan hybrid battery repair cost?
There is no fixed price for Nissan hybrids. The diagnostic is $150 in our service area and fully credited toward the repair; the repair, rebuild or replacement is quoted after testing.
Is my Rogue Hybrid still under warranty?
It may be. Nissan lists 96 months or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, on the hybrid system including the battery pack. A Nissan dealer can confirm with your VIN.
