Toyota hybrids are the cars we work on most. Most use nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) packs that can be tested module by module, repaired or fully rebuilt. Pick your model below for battery details, common problems, warning codes and prices.
Toyota hybrid batteries at a glance
- Most Toyota hybrids built before 2019 use nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) packs made of 7.2-volt modules — 20 in the Prius c, 28 in the Prius and Prius v, and 204 cells (244.8 volts) in the Camry, Avalon and RAV4 Hybrid. The Highlander Hybrid uses 30 larger 9.6-volt modules.
- Some newer Toyota trims use lithium-ion instead, such as most 2016+ Prius grades and the 2018 Camry Hybrid LE.
- For these model years, Toyota’s hybrid battery coverage is 8 years / 100,000 miles for most Texas-sold cars, so many are now outside it.
- Because NiMH modules can be tested one by one, a weak Toyota pack can often be repaired instead of replaced.

Toyota Hybrid Warning Codes
Toyota hybrids usually report a worn pack as P0A80 or P0A7F, often with P3000. Older systems also set P3011–P3029 for individual weak blocks. P0AFA and battery cooling and temperature codes point to sensing and heat problems. See our hybrid error code guide.
How We Handle Toyota Hybrids
We read every code, check block voltages at rest and under load, inspect the cooling fan, test the 12V battery and give you a written Battery Health Report before any price quote.
