A real job from Grand Prairie: a 2011 Lexus RX450h with a hybrid system warning and weak battery modules. We tested first, showed the owner the options, and rebuilt the pack the way the owner chose — with every replacement module tested before it went in.
CASE STUDY
2011 Lexus RX450h — Full Hybrid Battery Rebuild in Grand Prairie, TX
Vehicle: 2011 Lexus RX450h, about 140,700 miles
Location: Grand Prairie, Texas (by appointment)
Problem: Check Hybrid System warning; several battery modules had weakened
Work: Full pack rebuild — all 30 modules replaced with tested, matched modules, installed by Jay
Result: Final scan after the road test: all 15 battery blocks within 0.089 V of each other; car returned to the owner
Quick Answer
Symptom: The RX450h showed a hybrid system warning. Testing found that some of the battery modules had weakened.
Options: Replace only the weak modules (module repair from $700), or rebuild the whole pack. The owner chose to replace all 30 modules.
Parts quality: Every replacement module passed cycle testing, holding more than 7,500 mAh on charge and more than 5,000 mAh on discharge.
Proof: A scan before the work and a final scan after the road test, both written down — the block-voltage spread after the rebuild was 0.089 V.
Who did the work: Jay, our technician, removed the pack from under the rear seat, rebuilt it and reinstalled it.
The Problem: Hybrid System Warning on a 2011 RX450h
The owner of a 2011 Lexus RX450h in Grand Prairie, Texas, contacted DFW Hybrid Battery after the SUV started showing a hybrid system warning. At about 140,700 miles, the original battery was the obvious suspect — but we don’t quote anything until the battery has been tested.
Step 1: Diagnose First — the Battery Health Report
Jay connected a professional Launch scan tool and recorded the Hybrid Control data: the voltage and internal resistance of all 15 battery blocks, state of charge and battery temperatures. That snapshot is published as our sample Battery Health Report.
Why a static snapshot is not the whole story
Readings taken at rest can look fairly even. A weak module often shows itself only under load or when modules are tested individually. That is why the report, the warning codes and module testing are read together before we recommend anything.
Testing showed that several modules had weakened. The battery needed work.
Step 2: The Options — and the Owner’s Choice
We explained the two honest options:
| Option | What it means | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Module repair | Replace only the weak modules | From $700 labor + parts |
| Full pack rebuild | Replace all 30 modules with tested, matched modules | $2,400 for the Lexus RX400h / RX450h |
Replacing only the weak modules would have cost less. The owner chose to replace all 30 modules so the whole pack would be matched. Either way, it is the customer’s decision, made with the test data in hand — not a sales pitch.
Step 3: Every Replacement Module Tested Before Installation
A rebuild is only as good as the modules that go into it. Each of the 30 replacement modules went through charge and discharge cycle testing and was accepted only if it passed:
- Held more than 7,500 mAh on the charge cycle
- Delivered more than 5,000 mAh on the discharge cycle
- Tested OK across the board, then matched for the pack
Step 4: Removing and Reinstalling the Pack
On the 2010–2015 RX450h the hybrid battery sits under the rear seat. Jay removed the seat and trim, took the pack out, rebuilt it and reinstalled it.

Step 5: Road Test and Final Scan
After installation, the RX450h was road tested and scanned again before it went back to the owner (final scan at 140,724 miles). Here are the block voltages from the first scan and the final scan:
| Block | First scan (V) | Final scan (V) |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | 21.499 | 21.499 |
| 02 | 21.699 | 21.410 |
| 03 | 21.759 | 21.499 |
| 04 | 21.630 | 21.439 |
| 05 | 21.530 | 21.489 |
| 06 | 21.499 | 21.410 |
| 07 | 21.599 | 21.410 |
| 08 | 21.539 | 21.439 |
| 09 | 21.570 | 21.410 |
| 10 | 21.470 | 21.410 |
| 11 | 21.539 | 21.410 |
| 12 | 21.599 | 21.470 |
| 13 | 21.630 | 21.410 |
| 14 | 21.599 | 21.410 |
| 15 | 21.570 | 21.410 |
| Final scan reading | Value |
|---|---|
| Block voltage range | 21.410–21.499 V (spread 0.089 V) |
| Internal resistance, all 15 blocks | 0.029 Ω |
| State of charge (whole pack) | 48.2% |
| Battery temperature sensors TB1–TB6 | 24.0–24.8 °C |
All 15 blocks finished within 0.089 V of each other, and internal resistance read the same on every block. The owner received the final report with the car.
★★★★★What the owner said
“Jay did a great job diagnosing our hybrid battery on our Lexus RX450h. He was very thorough and presented us with several options. We decided to go with the modules replacement. Turn around time on the repair was very reasonable. He made sure the checks after the repair was good across the board and we were satisfied. He takes pride in his work and its shows.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the hybrid battery on a Lexus RX450h?
On the 2010–2015 RX450h, the hybrid battery sits under the rear seat. The seat and trim come out to reach it, which is why the job can be done at the customer’s location.
Do I have to replace every module?
No. If only a few modules are weak, replacing just those is often the lower-cost option (module repair starts at $700 labor + parts). Some owners of older, high-mileage packs prefer to replace all modules at once so the whole pack is matched. We show you the test data and let you choose.
How much does a Lexus RX450h battery rebuild cost?
A full pack rebuild for the Lexus RX400h / RX450h is $2,400, tax and mobile service included. See our hybrid battery prices.
Is the rebuild covered by a warranty?
Yes. Every repair comes with a written warranty of 1 to 3 years, depending on the vehicle’s condition and mileage, agreed before work begins. See our warranty.
Do you serve Grand Prairie?
Yes, by appointment. The on-site diagnostic in Grand Prairie is $200, and 50% of it is credited toward the repair. See hybrid battery repair in Grand Prairie.
