Fort Worth is outside our North Dallas service area, on the far west side of the Metroplex, so we do things a little differently here: every Fort Worth visit starts with a phone pre-diagnosis, and we schedule the trip so we arrive prepared. That keeps costs down and gives you a faster fix. We serve areas along I-35W, I-30, and Loop 820 by appointment.

Safe Things You Can Check Before Calling

Safety first

A hybrid battery operates at high voltage. Never open the battery case, remove covers, or touch orange cables. The checks below are safe and don’t involve the high-voltage system.

1. Write down the exact message

Take a photo of the dashboard with every warning showing. The exact wording (and any hybrid battery codes) helps narrow down the cause.

2. Note when it happens

Does it appear at startup, after driving, on hot days, or when accelerating? Patterns matter.

3. Check the battery vent

Find the hybrid battery intake vent (often near the rear seat) and make sure it isn’t blocked by bags, blankets, or pet hair.

4. Watch fuel economy

If your car shows mpg, note whether it has dropped recently.

5. Think about the 12V battery

If the car has trouble entering READY mode, has a dim dash, or the 12V battery is several years old, tell us — it’s a common cause.

What Happens on the Phone Pre-Diagnosis

We’ll go over your notes and photos, ask a few questions about the vehicle’s history, and tell you what the problem most likely is. If it sounds like something simple, we’ll say so. If it needs an on-site visit, we’ll schedule it and confirm pricing before we drive out. Most jobs are done at your home or work; when a repair needs it, we can bring the car to our shop. For an example of how we track down a no-start, see our 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid no-start diagnosis.

A Hybrid Warning Light and Your Fort Worth Emissions Test

Texas dropped the safety inspection for most non-commercial vehicles on January 1, 2025, but emissions testing is still required before registration in 17 counties, and Tarrant County is one of them. Fort Worth sits mostly in Tarrant County. Under the Texas DPS rules, the emissions test on 1996 and newer vehicles reads the car’s computer, and if the check engine light is commanded on with a trouble code stored, the vehicle fails. Many hybrid battery faults turn on the check engine light along with the hybrid warning, so a weak pack can hold up your registration.

Test early, not the week tags expire

If a hybrid warning appears, call us a few weeks before your registration is due. That leaves time to diagnose, order modules if needed and finish the repair before the test.

Clearing the code won’t get you through

A cheap scanner can switch the light off, but the hybrid system re-tests the battery as you drive and the code usually comes back. Clearing codes also resets the car’s self-tests, which need normal driving to finish.

Know which code you have

P0A80 points to a weak block in the pack, P0A7F to pack deterioration, and P3000 is usually paired with other codes. See our hybrid battery codes guide.

Drive a little before the test

After a repair we clear the codes and road-test the car. Give it a few days of normal driving before the emissions test so its self-checks have time to complete.

Hybrid Battery Replacement in Fort Worth, TX

Not every failed pack needs to be replaced, but some do. Replacement is the right call when most modules test weak, when a lithium pack has an internal fault, or when you want the longest possible life from a car you plan to keep. Here are the choices we can quote:

New, remanufactured or tested-used pack

A new pack gives the longest expected life. A remanufactured pack has been rebuilt and tested. A tested-used pack is the lowest-cost option for an older car. Price depends on the vehicle, the pack type and the option you choose, so call for a quote.

A full rebuild instead

We replace every module with tested, matched reconditioned modules (not new). On larger hybrids such as the Lexus RX400h/RX450h a rebuild is $2,400; a Camry Hybrid is $1,700. Full replacements often run $1,500–$4,000 at other shops, and more at a dealer.

Either way, your warranty of 1 to 3 years (depending on condition and mileage) is in writing before work begins. In Fort Worth the on-site diagnostic is $200, with 50% credited toward the repair, and the Battery Health Report with every module’s voltage is yours to keep. See hybrid battery replacement and hybrid battery cost.

Recent Fort Worth job

A 2008 Toyota Prius in Fort Worth would not go READY. The owner had been told the hybrid battery was failing, but testing showed a recurring P0AA6 high-voltage isolation fault plus DC/DC converter codes — not a proven battery failure. The DC/DC output held 14.05 V and 13.95 V under load. We recommended insulation and circuit testing instead of a battery the car had not been shown to need.
